After a busy week, the weekend is a good time to travel and relax. Although the weekend is not very long, it is enough as a day trip.  Using one day to experience nature and the relics of history. This time I will take you to travel to the peaceful and leisurely city —-Durham.

Durham is in the northeast of England and it near Newcastle upon Tyne. It only takes 11 minutes by train to get from Newcastle to Durham. Because of the short distance and convenient transportation I decided to go to Durham on Saturday. When I arrived in Durham, the weather was not very friendly. With the rain and wind, I came to an unfamiliar city.  Fortunately, I met an international student study in Durham University called Natalis and she told me that Durham Church and Castle is a good and famous place to visit. Then I will take you to travel the Durham Church and Castle.

Durham Cathedral

Before I went to the church, I had known that Durham Cathedral has the most intact surviving set of medieval monastic buildings in the British Isles. Durham Cathedral can be reached via the city centre or from many of the woodland footpaths and walks along the riverbanks of the River Wear. The Durham Church looks like a castle. According to locals, the Durham Church and the castle are together.

Durham Cathedral has been a place of worship, welcome and hospitality for almost a millennium. At the heart of the Durham UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Cathedral is cherished for its magnificent Romanesque architecture and is famous as the Shrine of St Cuthbert and the resting place of the Venerable Bede.

However, He was notified the information of the flight two weeks ago that the flight will be suspended and the ticket will be forcibly cancelled. He said the cancellation of this travel plan is not a bad thing. He believes that firstly, ensuring his own health is not only responsible for himself but also for the health of his family. Secondly, he can spend more time with his family. If possible, Vincent may travel with his family in places with fewer confirmed cases in the UK.

image from google

With the spread of new coronaviruses becoming wider and even spreading globally, transnational tourism seems to be facing a serious crisis. Facing the coming of the Easter holiday, which country do tourists most want to travel to? Will tourists’ original travel plans be considered cancelled due to the outbreak? Through the interview, we learned that European countries are the most wanted by local residents and international students in Newcastle.

the pie chart of the countries which are the most tourists want to travel

I surveyed 100 local residents and international students and made a pie chart. It can be seen from the pie chart that among these 100 people’s travel plans, France is the country they want to travel most, accounting for 25%. Followed by Italy and Spain, each with 20%. Only 5% want to travel in the UK, one fifth of that of France.

the data of new coronavirus in Europe 25th Feb

However, according to statistics from the official Chinese media, People’s Daily, on the overseas confirmed diagnosis of new coronaviruses, until February 25th, the outbreak in many countries of Europe. The table shows that the outbreak in Italy is very serious. The number of confirmed diagnoses currently stands at 222, the highest among all European countries. The cumulative number of confirmed diagnoses is 230, and the number of deaths also accounts for the largest number in Europe, with 6.

the bar chart of the occupation of cancelling

As the epidemic is getting worse, many tourists are also considering whether to cancel their trips. From the perspective of the three countries that were most popular with tourists, out of 100 people who originally planned to go to Italy canceled their trips. Most tourists who want to go to Spain remain the same. Five tourists wanting to go to France are still considering.

” Actually, I intend to have a trip to Italy and France and I even have make a perfect plan to go to there. But now, the coronavirus has absolutely affected my travel plan. I found that more than 130 people in Italy had tested positive of the virus from the BBC news this morning. I am really afraid of my French via.”

International students: Laura

However, some people considered the money they have paid for travel, so they don’t want to cancel the trip.

According to data from travel agencies, the top tourist favourite country is Spain, followed by Italy, and France ranked third. As for the impact of the new coronavirus, the travel agency manager told us that the impact of the virus is not particularly serious, and only some tourists who want to go to Italy will cancel and delay their trips due to the epidemic. Travel agencies will introduce less risky travel options to passengers, so that the economic losses of travel agencies will be reduced.
